Leash Everything: Rods, paddles, tackle, net. Tip-over is when losses happen.
File a Float Plan: Text a friend where you're going and when you'll be back. Every time.
VHF or Phone Case: Waterproof. Marine VHF for coastal work, Lifeproof or OtterBox inland.
Whistle & Light: Required by USCG. 360° white nav light after dusk.
Cold Water Rules: Below 60°F water? Dry suit or wetsuit. Hypothermia sets in within 10 minutes.
Wind Thresholds: Paddle: fish <15 mph. Pedal: fish <20 mph. Never fish offshore in whitecaps.
Current Awareness: In rivers, never fish above a strainer or sweeper. Know your ferry angle.
